We’re purists. If a song was written by a human being that song is eligible for certification. For recordings, if the song was written by a human being, the vocals are human and the instrumentalists are human, it is eligible for certification. Learn more on our terms and conditions page.

Not at all. There are plenty of AI tools out there for music that are not Generative AI. In other words, AI tools that don't create the song or master themselves are OK. Merch bearing the Humanable marks are sold on the Humanable store. If you have a special situation in which you would like to use our marks on merch, e.g. hats, t-shirts, etc., please reach out at welcome@humanable.com to coordinate. No, we love Randy, and we want him to be able to support his family and keep making music. There are ethical uses of Generative AI. However, we wouldn't certify these songs as they are not 100% humanmade. We expect Randy would understand what we are trying to accomplish in the marketplace. He's one of the good guys.

We don't choose sides; we just choose humans. We believe that the marketplace of ideas is important. In the meantime, we'll keep certifying human-only music and try to preserve a clean copyright and royalty stream for the artists and songwriters who join us.

Our requirements are that you must be ‘reasonably certain’ that Generative AI was not used in the creation of a song or master. The best avenue is to get confirmation from any co-writers that they, as humans, fully wrote their share of the song or sang their share of a master. If you were physically together writing the song or in the studio, there would be no question as to its authenticity. If you have written or recorded separately, ask the question so you can affirm the song, or master has no Generative AI in the process of creation.
