FAQs
We’re purists. If a song was written by a human being that song is eligible for certification. For recordings, if the song was written by a human being, the vocals are human and the instrumentalists are human, it is eligible for certification. Learn more on our terms and conditions page.
If the song was written by a human without Generative AI help, it is still eligible for certification. This certification is even recommended, since a cover is still a new piece of art. Humanable certifies humanity, not originality.
No problem! If it was written by a human, it is eligible. Humanable certifies parts of songs, full songs, uncut songs, demos and fully cut, recorded songs - if they are fully human. Keep in mind that as a song blossoms into a master, it will need a new certification.
Certifying your music with Humanable is a great way to establish credibility at the beginning of your career. If you're a Humanable artist, you can pitch this and provide your Humanable song numbers, so everyone, including labels and publishers, knows the authenticity behind your art. This also lowers the risk that for publishers and labels, as human made art does not complicate licensing and royalty business models.
You can, but we wouldn't certify it. Humanable certified music is 100% humanmade, free from generative AI.
You can, but we wouldn't certify it. Humanable certified music is 100% humanmade, free from generative AI. This means instrumentalists too. The Humanable movement leaves no human behind. However, if you are only certifying a song, and NOT a master for distribution, the melody and lyrics must be created only by a human; for demonstration purposes only, AI is permissible for instrumentation. The demo could NOT be converted to a master and could NOT be certified by Humanable.
Not at all. There are plenty of AI tools out there for music that are not Generative AI. In other words, AI tools that don't create the song or master themselves are OK. To get answers regarding specific AI tools, write to us at welcome@humanable.com. We'll give you a quick thumbs up or down on whether we could still certify your song or master.
Yes, but only if you are an active Humanable member and your social media, cover art, etc. is promoting only Humanable certified songs. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about your ability to use the Humanable marks. Just write to us at welcome@humanable.com and we'll get right back to you.
Merch bearing the Humanable marks are sold on the Humanable store. If you have a special situation in which you would like to use our marks on merch, e.g. hats, t-shirts, etc., please reach out at welcome@humanable.com to coordinate. We may or may not be able to grant permission, but we will do our best to accommodate special use cases. Extra charges may apply.
No, we love Randy, and we want him to be able to support his family and keep making music. There are ethical uses of Generative AI. However, we wouldn't certify these songs as they are not 100% humanmade. We expect Randy would understand what we are trying to accomplish in the marketplace. He's one of the good guys.
We don't choose sides; we just choose humans. We believe that the marketplace of ideas is important. In the meantime, we'll keep certifying human-only music and try to preserve a clean copyright and royalty stream for the artists and songwriters who join us.
Our requirements are that you must be ‘reasonably certain’ that Generative AI was not used in the creation of a song or master. The best avenue is to get confirmation from any co-writers that they, as humans, fully wrote their share of the song or sang their share of a master. If you were physically together writing the song or in the studio, there would be no question as to its authenticity. If you have written or recorded separately, ask the question so you can affirm the song, or master has no Generative AI in the process of creation.
